Experience 5G with Digicel

Dive into the 5th generation of mobile network technology that promises lightning-fast speeds and seamless connectivity. From revolutionizing how we communicate with SMS to making streaming a daily habit, each generation has paved the way for something greater. Now, with 5G, get ready to experience the ultimate leap in mobile network technology.

5G technology offers numerous benefits to businesses, including increased capacity, lower latency, and better connectivity. This translates into improved streaming, enhanced video conferences, and greater ability to perform tasks remotely. With faster response times and access to near real-time data, businesses can power technologies in industries such as healthcare, construction, education, industrial automation, public safety, and virtual and augmented reality, where quick response times are critical. Stay ahead of the curve and explore the endless possibilities that await with 5G Technology.

1.      The 5G network has more capacity. What does that mean?

Imagine cruising through a traffic-free highway with unlimited lanes at your disposal. That's what 5G does for your data - it eliminates congestion, boosts speed, and enhances performance, making your online experience smoother and more efficient than ever before! Say goodbye to buffering and hello to seamless browsing with 5G technology.

5G stands for fifth generation and is the next leap forward in mobile network technology. 5G means downloads will take seconds, not minutes. It will mean seamless streaming, real-time gaming. 5G means a future where devices are interconnected, and immersive experiences are the norm.

2.      When will 5G available for use?

Currently, we are in final stages of deployment of first 5G live test site and have received conditional regulatory approval. 5G technology will be deployed in phases and more information will be available to consumers as we approach the live date.

3.      Is 5G safe?

Yes. Multiple scientific studies have been conducted to evaluate the safety of 5G, and regulatory agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Commission for Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have stated that 5G is safe.

In neighbouring countries (Australia & New Zealand) with 5G, EME testing (Electromagnetic Emissions testing) has been completed and it was found that the EME levels were similar to 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi. The EME levels measured were found to be well below the safety limits, and in many cases over a thousand times lower.

4.      Will 5G replace the existing 3G, LTE & EDGE networks?

We expect when we do deploy 5G we will offer a number of options for customers. 5G won’t be for everyone. That said, we are also looking to expand and upgrade some of our existing network, this is still in planning phase so more information will follow in due course.

5.      Will 5G replace Wi-Fi?

5G and Wi-Fi are different technologies. They will complement each other.

6.      What will happen to the 3G & 4G network?

3G and 4G will still be in use and are not disappearing anytime soon.

7.      How is 5G different from 4G?

4G made it possible for us to stream and download on the go. 5G builds on this capability and takes it further. But 5G will do more than just improve our mobile phone experience.

The increased capacity and lower latency of 5G have the potential to revolutionize the way we live – enabling technologies like smart cities and remote monitoring.

8.      Whom are we partnering with for 5G deployment?

Digicel will partner with Nokia to deploy 5G technology in Samoa.

“We are excited to support our partner, Digicel Samoa in getting this important network infrastructure project off the ground. Our industry-leading AirScale portfolio supports all deployment scenarios and frequency bands and will bring enhanced mobile broadband services to their customers that leverage the speed, capacity and low latency of 5G technology.” – Jae Won, Head of APAC at Nokia

9.      What will be the next step?

Further announcement will be made as we edge closer to the live commercial environment launch.

So, stay tuned! We will continue to educate our customers on the new technology while we prepare for launch.

10.  What do I need to connect to 5G Network?

A 5G capable device is required to connect to the 5G network with the network settings enabled on 5G on your device. You would also need to be in a 5G covered area to connect to the network.

11.   Do I need a different sim to connect to the 5G network?

No, the current 4G or USIM you may have already is compatible with the 5G Network.

Stay tuned and look out for more information available on Digicel FB page and other media as Digicel Samoa gears up to launch 5G in Samoa.
