The dawn of 5G | Digicel Fiji

The dawn of 5G - Digicel Fiji powers up parts of Suva, Nadi & Lautoka ushering in a new era of connectivity

Suva, Fiji – Monday, September 15th 2025

Digicel Fiji has launched its 5G network in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka, placing customers with compatible devices at the forefront of Fiji’s digital evolution.

In 5G coverage areas, customers with compatible 5G devices will be able to access faster speeds than their current 4G, enabling superior streaming, faster downloads, and an enhanced gaming experience.

Apple and Samsung mobile devices won’t immediately connect to the Digicel Fiji 5G network as these smart devices require software updates from the manufacturers to enable 5G functionality for the already 5G capable devices. This process involves testing and certification for compatibility and performance. Digicel Fiji will notify its customers once the certification is received from Apple and Samsung.

Digicel Fiji CEO, Farid Mohammed, said; “We’re proud to launch 5G in Fiji, unlocking a new dimension of potential for our customers. Building upon our robust 4G network, we’re propelling Fiji into a future defined by extraordinary connectivity. This isn’t a mere speed upgrade, it’s a fundamental shift – it’s about empowering Fijians to give them the means to access seamless, immersive experiences that will transform how they live, work, and connect. We’re not just opening a new chapter, we’re writing a new, exhilarating story of possibilities, and we’re committed to giving Fijians access to this game-changing technology. This is just the beginning; we will be expanding 5G across major population centres in Fiji, bringing this incredible technology to more Fijians.”

Initial test results at the new Digicel Fiji 5G sites boasted average speeds of 600-700Mbps, with the full potential reaching up to 1Gbps. Actual speeds may vary due to location, distance from the mobile tower, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download/upload destination. In non-5G coverage areas, you'll automatically switch to 4G or 3G.

Digicel Fiji’s commitment to innovation aligns perfectly with the Fijian government’s clear vision for a digitally connected future. Our substantial investment in 5G infrastructure is a result of this vision's support, and Digicel Fiji is pleased to contribute to the advancement of Fiji’s digital landscape. The issuing of 5G license and spectrum by the government has enabled us to deploy this technology, further solidifying our commitment to playing our part in the achievement of the nation’s connectivity goals.
