Digicel Sponsors Nasinu Carnival

November 12th 2008 - .

Wednesday November 12th - Nadi: Fiji’s fastest growing mobile phone operator, Digicel, today announced a new partnership with the Nasinu Town Council as title sponsor of the Digicel Nasinu Carnival which will take place on 22-29 November.

Digicel Fiji CEO, John Delves, explained that the sponsorship is part of Digicel’s extensive community programme following on from similar support given to the Digicel Coral Coast Carnival last month and last week’s Digicel Fiji Paralympic Games.

“Nasinu is a heavily populated area with specific community needs,” Mr Delves said. “We believe that Digicel’s sponsorship will allow the carnival to thrive and raise the much-needed funds for the target projects.”

The main objective of the week’s activities is to initiate a fund drive for a mortuary and an HIV clinic in Valelevu, as well as to bring the various communities of Nasinu together for a week of cultural celebration.

“Digicel operates a mobile phone network in 28 markets in the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands, and in each country we have a policy of working closely with the community to help with specific needs such as this,” Mr Delves said.

Dhiren Prasad, chairperson of the Digicel Nasinu Carnival Committee, welcomed Digicel’s timely support.

“Founded in 2000, Nasinu is the youngest township in Fiji, but with 112,000 residents, it is also the most heavily populated,” Mr Prasad said. “The Digicel Nasinu Carnival will unite the seven wards of Nasinu and give all citizens many good reasons to come and celebrate.”

The Digicel Nasinu Carnival begins on Saturday 22 November with a parade from Nasole to the Valelevu grounds. As well as all the fun of the fair each day, there will be nightly entertainment that culminates in the crowning of the Digicel Nasinu Queen on Saturday 29 November.
