Digicel Funds 6 St John’s Ambulances To Assist In The Relief Effort
January 15th 2009 - DIGICEL DONATES FJ$25,000 TO HELP EMERGENCY SERVICES Thursday 15th January, 2009: Digicel, the fastest growing mobile company in the Pacific, has pledged a donation of FJD$25,000 to St John’s Ambulance.
Digicel’s contribution will enable the purchase and repair of 6 ambulances and will immediately double the number of St John’s Ambulance available on the road throughout Fiji.
A spokesperson for St John’s Ambulance Taniela V Colamoto said “We are very appreciative of Digicel’s contribution which comes at a time of great need for emergency services. The doubling of the number of ambulances on the road will ensure that we can continue to help those who need us most at this time”.
St John’s Ambulance is a worldwide voluntary emergency service, and has been providing voluntary first aid to the people of Fiji for over 70 years. It provides other services including first aid training throughout the country.
Digicel Fiji CEO, John Delves said: “St John’s Ambulance provide an invaluable service and Digicel are very pleased to be able to help them to continue with their good work for the people of Fiji, particularly at this time of great need’’.
Digicel staff are continuing with their daily visits to evacuation centres in the Western region and bringing essential supplies such as blankets, food and medical supplies. This Friday, the Digicel teams will be calling on evacuation centres in Nausori, Digicel brand ambassador Serevi and the Digicel 7s will make a special visit to the Burebasaga District School evacuation centre where at least 150 people are taking shelter. Digicel staff have also committed themselves to take part in the clean up operations to take place across the country in the upcoming weeks.
