In July 2008, Digicel further strengthened it's commitment to rugby around the region by sponsoring Manu Samoa. All over the Pacific region, Digicel is keen to not be just a sponsor but rather a partner with the Rugby Unions in each country. Digicel is keen to work at every level to help and support the development of rugby from grassroots to national level. Another intiative includes the establishment of the Manu Samoa Developement Fund to help fund scholarships of high potential players.
Winners of the IRB 7’s Rugby World Cup in 2005, the champion Digicel Fiji 7’s Team took top honors in the 2005-06 World Sevens Series. Last year they were narrowly edged out by New Zealand by only 2 points after the final leg in Edinburgh.Traditionally one of the worlds strongest sides, the Digicel Fiji 7’s Team are once again contenders to lift the 2007-08 series title, with their natural flair for the abbreviated code.
