In addition to bringing affordable telecommunications to the Pacific region for the first time in history, Digicel supports local cultural initiatives to help local communities maintain their traditions.
For the first time ever, Digicel brings those that would normally be disadvantaged, an opportunity to get involved in community activities. Digicel is the proud sponsor of two main events in Papua New Guinea, the Morobe Show and Hiri Moale Festival. The Morobe Show is one of the biggest shows in Papua New Guinea, attracting 50,000 people to view the many stalls and attractions.
The Hiri Moale Festival is the most prestigious celebration of Independence in Papua New Guinea, it is a commemoration of the Hiri trading tradition, Digicel’s involvement with the Hire Moale Festival demonstrates the company’s genuine interest in supporting local cultures and helping local communities maintain their traditions that were once a part of the every day Papua New Guinean way of life.
In Fiji, we are learning more about the cultures, we have Bula Friday every second week. Once we launch, Digicel Fiji will be actively involved in cultural activities throughout all communities in Fiji.
In the upcoming year, we hope to get involved in many more initiatives through out the Pacific region.
