DIGICEL FIJI 7s TEAM VISIT CHIDLREN’S WARD AT CWM HOSPITAL
Digicel-sponsored players take time out from training to cheer up kids
Wednesday November 19th - Nadi: Members of the Digicel Fiji 7s team took time out from their training schedule today to visit the Children’s Ward at the CWM Hospital in Suva. The 15-member squad, led by coach Waisale Serevi and manager Jope Tuivanuavou, proved a big hit with the patients and hospital staff alike.
After spending more than an hour going from bedside to bedside to chat with the children, sign autographs and take photos, Serevi noted that the time was too short.
“We need to spend two hours here next time,” the Digicel Brand Ambassador said. “We have a busy week with training as we leave early on Monday for the Dubai and South Africa 7s, so we would definitely like to come back to see the children again before Christmas.”
Matron Balawakula, who is in charge of the Ward, explained that they cater for up to 45 children, and each had been waiting eagerly to meet their heroes.
“This visit has really made our day,” she said. “The children have been so excited to meet Serevi and the boys. We’ll all be cheering the team on next week when we watch them on television representing Fiji on the IRB 7s circuit.”
The Digicel Fiji 7s team flies out from Nadi on Monday to play in the IRB Dubai 7s on 28-29 November and the IRB South Africa 7s on 5-6 December. Under the guidance of coach Serevi, the world champions will be looking for a good start to the IRB 7s World Series before they defend the Melrose Cup next March.
