Digicel Pacific Ltd is a sister company to Digicel Group and is committed to delivering a world-class mobile telecommunications service to the Pacific that will transform the region by placing it at the cutting edge of wireless technology, while challenging competitors in a manner that drives positive business development.
To date, Digicel operates in Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga and Nauru.
In February 2010 the Government of French Polynesia awarded Digicel a Telecommunications Operator's License and Digicel expects to launch in the near future.
Digicel is the proud sponsor of rugby across the South Pacific including; Digicel Fiji 7's and Fiji's Digicel, Manu Samoa, and Tonga's Digicel Cup club tournament.
On July 24th, 2007 Digicel’s launch in Papua New Guinea marked the end of a fifty year monopoly in the telecommunications market in Papua New Guinea. According to the Government's 2008 Budget presentation, Digicel has already contributed to 0.7% growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Papua New Guinea. In 2009 an AusAid economic Report suggested that that GDP increase figure was now 2.5%
